Vertigo: Vestibular Disorder Physiotherapy in Ottawa
Vertigo is a type of dizziness identified by an impression of spinning. Vertigo can come and go, or it can last for hours, even days. Victims of vertigo may also experience nausea and vomiting, double vision or a racing heart.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
Vertigo is usually the result of a disorder in the inner ear (vestibular system). The vestibular system integrates stimuli and movement. It is also what maintains objects in visual focus when you move your body. For instance, rolling out of bed, getting up and lifting your head to look up are some of the triggers of vertigo or dizziness.
BPPV is one of the most common causes of Vertigo.
Other causes of vertigo include:
-
inner ear infection or diseases
-
head or brain injuries
-
fatigue
-
labyrintitis
-
vestibular neuritis
-
Meniere's disease
